SOLUTION

The above problem can be simply solved as follows;

The formula to calculate Mean = Sum of all observations/Number of observation

Putting the values,

= (42+28+34+52+65+71+50+56)/8

= 398/8

= 49.75

Formula to calculate median;

Median for even observation = [(n/2)ᵗʰ + (n/2 + 1)ᵗʰ/2]

Putting the data in ascending order = 28, 34, 42, 50, 52, 56, 65, 71

= (50 + 52)/2

= 51

Hence, The mean is 49.75 and median in 51
