Given that ⤵️

5 students scored of football match = 12,8,4,10.

To find ⤵️

mean and median .

Solution ⤵️

mean =  \frac{sum \: of \: observation \: }{no \: of \: observation}

 =  \frac{12 + 8 + 4 + 10 + 6}{5}

 =  \frac{34}{5}  =5

thus the mean score is 6.8 (-1)

4,8,610,12

middle value =6

hence, the median = 6 (2)

 {\boxed{mean = 5}}

 { \boxed{median = 6}}

Question

find the mean and median of goals scored by 5 students in a school football match . 12,8,6,4,10

Given

  • 5 students
  • scores - 12,8,6,4,10

To Find

  • mean
  • median

solution

Mean is defined as average of the Data

Mean is defined as average of the Data Its given as :-

{\underline{\boxed{\sf{\color{grey}{Mean = \frac{sum\:of\: observation}{No.of\: observation}}}}}}

Sum of observation= 12+ 8+ 6+4+10=40

No. of Observation= 5

\sf{  \implies \: Mean = \frac{40}{5}}\\ \\\sf{  \implies \: Mean = 8}

Median is defined as the middle most value of the given data

In order to find the median, first we need to arrange the data either in ascending or descending order.

✏️To find the median for odd number of observations formula is n+1 /2

✏️To find the median for even number of observations formula is n/2.

  • where n denote the no.of observation

 \sf \color{pink}{Ascending \:  Order = 4,6,8,10,12}

\sf{ \implies Median = \frac{5+1}{2}}\\ \\ \sf{ \implies Median =\frac{6}{2}} \\ \\ \sf{ \implies Median ={3}^{rd} observation}

 \sf \underline{So  \: the  \: third \:  observation  \: is  \: the  \: median.}

 \sf{3rd  \: observation= 8} \\  \sf \color{green}{So \:  8  \: is  \: the  \:median \:  of \:  the  \: given \:  data.}
