Let the assumed mean is A = 50

Arithmetic mean = A+[sigma xi - A]/N

= 50 + [(38-50)+(70-50)+(48-50)

+(40-50)+(42-50)+(55-50)+(63-50)

+(46-50)+(54-50)+(44-50)]/10

= 50 +[-12+20-2-10-8+5+13-4+4-6]/10

= 50 + ( 42 - 42 )/10

= 50

Therefore,

Mean = 50
