Given:

 \begin{array}{|c|c|c|c|c|c|}\cline{1-6} \bf x & 4 & 6 & 9 & 10 & 15\\\cline{1-6}\bf f & 5 & 10 & 10 & 7 & 8\\\cline{1-6}\end{array}

\\

x | f | fx

4 | 5 | 20

6 | 10 | 60

9 | 10 | 90

10 | 7 | 70

15 | 8 | 120

\\

To find:

Mean of the following data = ?

\\

Solution:

The given data is a grouped data.

\\

Mean = Σfx ÷ Σf

⇒ Mean = (20 + 60 + 90 + 70 + 120) ÷ (5 + 10 + 10 + 7 + 8)

⇒ Mean = 360 ÷ 40

⇒ Mean = 90

\\

∴ Mean of the given data = 90

\\

KNOW MORE:

★ There are 2 types of data:

  1. Grouped data
  2. Ungrouped data

★ Mean for Grouped data = Sum of all term ÷ Total number of terms.

★ Mean for ungrouped data = Σfixi ÷ Σfi
