Hello there!
The mean score means the average, or the sum of the scores divided by how many scores there were in total.
Let's find the mean first to get it out of the way.
37 + 73 + 77 + 84 + 85 + 115 = 471.
471 / 6 = 78.5
Your mean is 78.5, or 79 when estimated.
The median is the middle number in a sequence listed from least to greatest. It's actually pretty simple to find. I use a pretty easy method to finding it.
First, set the numbers from least to greatest.
37, 73, 77, 84, 85, 115.
Eliminate the first and last numbers.
73, 77, 84, 85.
Repeat the process.
77, 84.
Since there are no middle numbers left, we must average the two numbers.
Add 77 to 84 and divide by 2.
77 + 84 = 161
161 / 2 = 80.5
Your median is 80.5
Our mean is 78.5 or 79, and our median is 80.5 or 81.
The median actually scores better, as it gives us a closer number to the center of what we're dealing with.
I hope this helps!
