☆Question :

Find the median of,

12,14,10,16,14,20,10,15,18 and 16

☆ Answer :

As we know,

Formula for calculating mean is

\huge{\boxed{\bf{\dfrac{n+1}{2}}}}}

The given numbers are,

12, 14, 10, 16, 14, 20, 10, 15, 18 and 16.

For finding mean, first we wanna arrange these numbers in ascending order, ie, from small numbers to large numbers.

Then,

10, 10, 12, 14, 14, 15, 16 , 16, 18, 20.

According to the formula,

n = Total number of terms

∴ n = 10

Median =  \bf\dfrac{n+1}{2}

\implies\bf\dfrac{10+1}{2}= \bf\dfrac{11}{2}

But it is impossible to find 5.5th term.

In such cases we can use this formula ;

\huge{\boxed{\bf{\dfrac{n}{2}+(\bf{\dfrac{n}{2}+1)}}}

Here ie,

\implies\bf\dfrac{n}{2} +(\bf\dfrac{n}{2}+1)

\implies\bf\dfrac{10}{2}+(\bf\dfrac{10}{2}+1)

\implies\bf{5th\:term +6th\:term}

\implies\bf{14 +15 = 29}

So the median of the given numbers are 29.
