The median of prime numbers between the given range of 5 to 20 is 13.

Given :

Range between prime numbers to find : 5 to 20

To Find :

The median of prime numbers between 5 to 20

Solution :

Prime Numbers and Median :

  • Prime numbers are those numbers that only have 2 factors or are divisible by only 2 numbers i.e. 1 and the number itself.
  • The median of a dataset is the middle of the average of middle values when the values are sorted in order.

Prime numbers between 5 and 20 are : 7, 11, 13, 17, 19

For finding the median, we need to sort them in ascending order i.e. increasing order.

The values in ascending order are: 7, 11, 13, 17, 19

Number of values in the dataset ( n ) = 5

The Xth value is the median of the dataset, where

                X = (n+1)/2

                     = (5+1)/2

                     = 6/2

                     = 3

The Xth i.e. 3rd value in the dataset is 13.

Hence, the median of the prime numbers between 5 and 20 is 13.
