median =l+n/2-cf /f ×h

median =145 + ( 20 -17 / 12 ) ×8

median = 145 +2 = 147

magnitude of the median class, h = 9

C is the c.f of class preceding the median class = 17

hence, median = 144.5+ \frac{9}{12} (\frac{40}{2} -17) = 144.5+ 2.25

            median = 146.75
