Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

the data:5,7,1,10,6,16

To find:-

find the median of the following data 5,7,1,10,6,16

Solution:-

Given data :5,7,1,10,6,16

On writing the given observations into ascending order

=>1,5,6,7,10,16

Number of given observations=6

It is an even number.

we know that

The number of observations is "n",an even number then the median of the data is the average of n/2th and (n/2)+1 th observations

n/2=6/2=3

(n/2)+1=3+1=4

3rd observation=6

4th observation=7

average of 6 and 7

=(6+7)/2

=13/2 (0r)=6.5

Answer:-

The median of the given data =13/2 or 6.5

Used formulae:-

  • The middle term of the data when it is arranged in the ascending/descending order is the median of the given data.
  • Median is denoted by M.
  • If the number of observations is "n"
  1. If "n" is an odd number then the median is (n+1)/2 th observation.
  2. If "n" is an even number then the median is the average of (n/2)th and (n/2)+1 th observations.
