Find the median of the scores 5, 8, 14, 16, 19 and 20 ?
Answers
Question :- Find the median of the scores 5, 8, 14, 16, 19 and 20 ?
Concept used :-
The median of a set of data is the middlemost number in the set. The median is also the number that is halfway into the set. To find the median, the data should first be arranged in order from least to greatest.
- If there is an odd number of terms, the median is the center term. = (n+1)/2 th term .
- If there is an even number of terms, add the two middle terms and divide by 2 = {(n/2 term)+(n/2+1) term}/2 .
Solution :-
→ Arranging in ascending order we get = 5, 8, 14, 16, 19 , 20 = 6 terms = Even Number of terms.
- n = 6
so,
→ Median = {(n/2 term)+(n/2+1) term}/2
→ Median = {(6/2 term) + (6/2 + 1) term}/2
→ Median = {3rd term + (3 + 1) term}/2
→ Median = {3rd term + 4th term}/2
→ Median = (14 + 16)/2
→ Median = (30/2)
→ Median = 15 (Ans.)
Hence, Median of the scores will be 15.

Given : 5, 8,14,16,19 and 20
To Find : Median
Solution:
5, 8,14,16,19 ,20
Data is already arranged in order
There are total 6 terms
Hence median (3rd term + 4th term )/2
=( 14 + 16)/2
= 15
15 is the Median
