Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

2,12,7,5,10,6

To find :-

Find the median of the ungrouped data ?

Solution :-

Given observations are :2,12,7,5,10,6

On writing them into ascending order

=> 2, 5, 6 , 7 , 10 , 12

Number of observations = 6

6 is the even number

We know that

If the number of observations is 'n' an even number then median of the ungrouped data is average of the (n/2)th and (n/2)+1 th observations.

So n= 6

=> n/2 = 6/2 = 3

3rd observation = 6

(n/2)+1 = 3+1 = 4

4th observation = 7

Median Average of 3rd and 4th observations

=>M= (6+7)/2

=>M= 13/2

=> M = 6.5

Therefore, M = 6.5

Answer:-

Median for the given ungrouped data is 6.5

Used formulae:-

  • If the number of observations is 'n' an even number then median of the ungrouped data is average of the (n/2)th and (n/2)+1 th observations.

Points to know :-

  • Median is the middle term of the given data when it is arranged in either ascending order or descending order.

  • If the number of observations is 'n' an odd number then median of the ungrouped data (n+1)/2 th observation.
