Given that

Variates = 5, 7, 8, 11, 13, 17
Frequency = 3, 7, 7, 12, 13, 10

Thus
as we know
Total Number of variates = 6

Thus   Center two variates are   8 and 11
And   Frequencies are 7 and 12
So Median = 7+12/ 2
                 = 19/2 = 95.5

Golda: This is not the correct way to compute median in a discrete series.
Golda: What about cumulative frequency ?
Golda: Wrong calculation because 19/2 = 9.5 but you have written 95.5.

Solution :-

Median -

_____________________________________________________________
  x                                   Frequency                     Cumulative Frequency
_____________________________________________________________

 5                                         3                                                3

 7                                         7                                               10

 8                                         7                                               17

 11                                      12                                               29

 13                                      13                                               42

 17                                      10                                               52

___________________________________________________________

                                       N = 52

___________________________________________________________

Median = Size of (N + 1)/2th item

⇒ (52+1)/2th item

⇒ 53/2th item

⇒ size of 26.5th item = 11

So, Median is 11
