Given,

F=W=5000N

Stress = 95 MN/m²

=95 × 1000000 N/m²

To find,

Minimum diameter of the steel wire =?

Solution,

Using the formula of stress,

Stress=F/A = F/πR²

⇒r² = F/π stress

⇒r = √F/π stress

r=√5000/3.14×95×1000×1000

r=√5×10⁻²/3.14×95

r= 10⁻¹× 0.0409

r= 4.09×10⁻³m

Therefore, Diameter of steel wire = 2r

D= 2r = 2×4.04×10⁻³

D= 8.18×10⁻³

Hence, the diameter of the wire is 8.18×10⁻³.
