Mean ( Average) = sum of Total observations/No. of observations.

Here,

No. of Observation = 6.

Now,

=> 28 = (21 + 25 + 29 + x + 31 + 33)/6

=> 28 × 6 = 139 + x

=> x = 168 - 139

=> x = 29.

Solution :

Let the missing number = a

Sum of the terms = 21+25+29+a+31+33

= 139 + a ----( 1 )

Number of terms ( n ) = 6 ---( 2 )

Mean = 28 ( given )

=> ( 1 )/( 2 ) = 28

=> ( 139 + a )/6 = 28

=> 139 + a = 28 × 6

=> 139 + a = 168

=> a = 168 - 139

=> a = 29

Therefore ,

Required missing Number = a = 29
