Find the moment of inertia of a solid cylinder of mass M and radius R about a line parallel to the axis of the cylinder and on the surface of the cylinder.

If the moment of inertia about an axis parallel to the axis of the cylinder is MR^2/2

Same as that of the disc because it looks like stack of the disc kept one above the other

Similarly the moment of inertia about an axis passing through the centre of the mass and perpendicular to the axis of cylinder is

I = MR^2/4 + ML^2/12
