Let the numbers be x and x+8.

x+x+8 = 184

2x+8 = 184

2x = 176

x = 88

The numbers are 88 and 96.

Given,

Sum of two consecutive multiples of 8 is 184.

To find,

Find the multiple of 8.

Solution,

Let the first multiple of 8 be 8x and the other consecutive multiple of 8 be 8x+8.

⇒  8x + 8x + 8 = 184.

⇒  16x + 8 = 184

+8 which is on the left hand side of the equation would be shifted to right hand side of the equation and its sign would change from + 8 to -8.

⇒  16x = 184 - 8

⇒  16x = 176

⇒  x = 176/16

⇒  x = 11.

Therefore, the first multiple of ⇒ 8x is 8(11) = 88.

The other consecutive multiple of 8 is 8x+8 ⇒ 8(11)+8 = 96.
