Answer:

The roots are not real.

Given:

The given quadratic equation is

=> 2x² - 3x + 5 = 0

To find:

  • The nature of the roots.

Solution:

The given quadratic equation is

=> 2x² - 3x + 5 = 0

Here, a = 2, b = -3 and c = 5

=> Discriminant = b² - 4ac

=> Delta (∆) = (-3)² - 4 (2) (5)

=> ∆ = 9 - 40

=> ∆ = - 31

=> ∆ < 0

Hence, the roots are not real.

Extra information:

  • If ∆ > 0, roots are real and unequal.

  • If ∆ = 0, roots are real and equal.

  • If ∆ < 0, roots are not real.
