3x² - 3x + 5

Here,

a = 3

b = -2

c = 5

For finding the nature of roots, find the value of discriminant (D)

D = b² - 4ac

⇒ D = (-2)² - 4(3)(5)

⇒ D = 4 - 60

D = -56

Since the value of discriminant is less than 0,

roots are imaginary and there is no real root

Additional information:

  • If the Discriminant value is greater than 0, that is if D is a positive number, then it means that the equation has Real and Unequal roots.
  • If the value of Discriminant is equal to 0 then it means that the equation has Real and Equal roots.
  • Root of a quadratic equation is the value of unknown variable for which the quadratic equation holds true
  • A quadratic equation has 2 roots and linear equations have 1 real root.
