Answer:

For (i),

Lets assume

R1=2Ω,R2=3Ω,R3=20Ω,R4=4Ω,R5=1Ω

Since R1 and R2 are in series,

∴R(equivalent of 1 and 2)=R1+R2=5Ω=R(a)

Now, Since R(a) and R3 in parallel,

∴1/R(equivalent of a and 3)=1/5+1/20

⇒R(equivalent of a and 3)=4Ω=R(b)

And, R(b),R4 and R5 are in series,

∴R(equivalent of b,4 and 5)=(4+4+1)Ω=9Ω=R(total equivalent)=R(t)

∵V=IR

∴I=V/R

⇒I=9/9=1A

For(ii),

Since all of them are in series,

∴R(t)=(5+4+3+2+1)Ω=15Ω

V=IR

I=V/R

I=9/15=3/5A
