A number consists of two digits whose sum is 9. If 27 is subtracted from the sum

We have

x + y = 9 ---------- (1)

Also, given that if 27 is subtracted to the number, its digits are reversed.

10y + x  - 27 = 10x + y

(x - 10x) + (10y - y) = 27

-9x + 9y = 27

-x + y = 3 --------- (2)

Solving (1) and (2), we get

x + y = 9

-x + y = 3
