the number is 1600 which decreased by 25/4% becomes 1500.

Let number is x which decreased by 25/4% becomes 1500.

i.e., x - 25/4 % of x = 1500

⇒x - 25/4 × x/100 = 1500

⇒x - x/16 = 1500

⇒(16 - 1)x/16 = 1500

⇒15x/16 = 1500

⇒x = 1600
