Solution:

Let us take the number as $X$, the number formed after multiplied by 8 is $8X$, thereby if X is increased by 84 we get $8X$, now that can be showed as  

$X + 84 = 8X$

Subtracting X from 8X, we get the value equal to 84

$8X - X = 84$

Dividing 84 by 7 we get the value of the X which when multiplied by 8 is increased by 84

$7X = 84$

$X = 12$

Therefore, the value of X is 12.
