given ,

sum of two number = 7

let, x and y be those numbers

x + y = 7 ---------(1)

difference of those two number = 5

x - y = 5--------(2)

OR

y - x = 5( -x + y = 5)----------(3)

now,

adding both equations,

CASE (i)

x + y = 7

x - y = 5

--------------

2x = 12

x = 6

putting X's value in (1) equation,

6+y = 7

y = 1

X = 6 & Y = 1

CASE(ii)

x + y = 7

-x + y = 5

---------------

2y = 12

y = 6

putting Y's value in (1) equation,

x + 6 = 7

x = 1

X = 1 & Y= 6

hence ,there can be two set of answers possible on case one with 1&6 and case two with 6&1 as values.
