C2O4 is a polyatomic ion with a charge of -2. The oxygen atom in this molecule have a oxidation state of- 2 because oxygen always has -2 charge on it. Since there are 4 atoms of oxygen the overall charge of the oxygen is 4 (-2) =-8. The oxidation states of c is +3 & o is -2.
