Oxidation number of :-

1. Oxygen : O = (-2) x 3 = -6

2. Potassium : K = +1

3. Chlorine : Cl = +5

The overall oxidation number of the compound should be equal to 0.

1 + 5 - 6 = 0

Hope this helps! :)

Answer:

With these points in mind we can figure out for KClO3, oxidation state of: K is +1 since it is a Group 1 metal. O is -2 since it is not bonded to F and it's not a peroxide.
