Answer:

Let the initial rectangle length be x unit and breadth be y unit

initial area = xy sq units

Now rectangle’s length and width are both doubled,

New length =2x units

New width =2y units

Area of new rectangle = (2x) × (2y) = 4xy sq units

Nett Increase in Area = 4xy - xy = 3xy sq units

Percentage increase in Area = Nett increase / initial Area × 100

Percentage increase = 3xy/xy × 100

Percentage increase = 3 × 100 = 300%

Answer: the rectangle’s area increased by 300 percent when the rectangle’s length and width are both doubled.
