Question

find the perimeter of triangle if one side is 16 feet, another side is two- sevenths the perimeter, and the third side is one - third the perimeter.

Given

  • one side of triangle is 16 feet.
  • Another side of triangle is two - sevenths.
  • The third side is one - third of perimeter.

Required to Find

Find the perimeter of triangle.

Solution

Let p = perimeter

 \sf \: p =  \frac{2}{7} p +  \frac{1}{3}  + 16

Multiply equation by a common multiple of 7 and 3

 \sf \: 21(p) = 21  \frac{2}{7} p + 21 \frac{1}{3} + 21(16)

Cancel the denominators, result

 \sf \implies \: 21p = 3(2p) + 7(p) + 336 \\  \sf \implies \: 21p = 6p + 7p + 336   \\ \sf \implies \: 21p = 13p + 336 \\ \sf \implies \: 21p - 13p = 336 \\  \sf \implies \: 8p = 336

 \sf \implies \:p =  \frac{336}{8}

p = 42 ft is the perimeter
