let the point on x- axis is A ( x, 0)

by midpoint formula,

x = 2 + (-4) /2

x = 2 - 4 /2

x = -2/2

x = -1

therefore, the point on x-axis which is equidistant from the points (2, -2) and (-4, 2) is (-1, 0)
