Step-by-step explanation:

Present Population,P = 12 lakh

Rate of increase,R = 4%p.a.

Time,T= 2years

therefore n= 2

Population after 2 years

 =  p(1 +  \frac{r}{100}) {}^{n}

 = 12lakh(1 +  \frac{4}{100} ) {}^{2}  \\  = 12lakh( \frac{26}{25}  ) {}^{2}   \\  = 1200000  \times  \frac{26}{25}  \times  \frac{26}{25} \\   = 1920 \times 26 \times 26 = 1297920

Thus the population of town will be 1297290 in 2 years.
