Given :

▪ Two identical resistors of resistances 10Ω and 20Ω are connected in series with a battery of voltage 20V.

To Find :

▪ Potential difference across 20Ω resistor.

Concept :

☞ Current flow through each resistor in series connection remains same.

☞ As per ohm's law current flowing through a conductor is directly proportional to the applied potential difference. (At constant Temperature.)

Mathematically,

\bigstar\:\underline{\boxed{\bf{\red{V=I\times R}}}}

  • V denotes applied voltage
  • I denotes current
  • R denotes resisitance

Calculation :

Eq. resistance of circuit :

↗ Req = R_1 + R_2

↗ Req = 10 + 20

Req = 30Ω

Current flow in the circuit :

➡ V = I × Req

➡ 20 = I × 30

I = 2/3 A

Pd across 20Ω resistor :

⤵ V' = I × R_2

⤵ V' = 2/3 × 20

⤵ V' = 40/3

V' = 13.33V
