Given: An iron block of weight 40 N and base area 0.25 m^2 is placed on floor. Later, one more block of same weight is placed above it.

To find: Pressure in both cases

Explanation: In first case, only one block is on the floor. Weight of block= 40 N

Area = 0.25 m^2

Pressure= Force/ Area

= 40/0.25

= 160 Pa

In second case, the weight is increased. When two same blocks are kept, the weight will be (40*2) = 80 N. But since it is placed on top of other block, the surface area will be same. Therefore, area= 0.25 m^2

Pressure= Force/Area

= 80/0.25

= 320 Pa

Therefore, when one block was kept the pressure exerted on floor was 160 Pa but when another block of same mass is kept on it, the pressure exerted is 320 Pa.
