Find the probability that getting the sum 6 when two dice are thrown simultaneously

Favourable outcomes for getting a doublet = 6

{ (1,1) (2,2) (3,3) (4,4) (5,5) (6,6) }

Probability of getting a doublet = 6/36 = 1/6.

{ (1,5) (2,4) (3,3) (4,2) (5,1) }

Probability of getting a total of 6 = 5/36.

Given,

Two dice are thrown simultaneously.

To Find,

The probability of having the sum of six on the dice. when simultaneously two are thrown.

Solution,

As simultaneously two dices are thrown that's why we can say, the total number of outcomes will be =6×6 =36.

Now to get 6 as the sum of the numbers on two dice, the possible combinations of numbers on two dice can be = {(1,5),(2,4).(3,3),(4,2),(5,1)}

So possible outcomes = 5.

We know that Probability = \frac{Possible Outcomes}{TotalOutcomes}= \frac{5}{36}.

Hence, The probability of getting sum of 6 on the numbers of two dices, when they are thrown simultaneously is  \frac{5}{36}.
