Answer:

1. Let us assume

The first integer number = x

Thus, the next consecutive positive integer will be = x + 1

Product of two consecutive integers = x × (x +1)

x× (x +1) = 306

⇒ x2 + x = 306

⇒ x2 + x – 306 = 0……………………..(1)

x can be expressed as

x = 18x – 17x………………………………(2)

Substitute the equation (2) in equation (1)

x² + 18x – 17x – 306 = 0

⇒ x(x + 18) – 17(x + 18) = 0

⇒ (x + 18)(x – 17) = 0

x + 18 = 0

x – 17 = 0

x = 17 and x = -18

Since integers are positive

so x = 17 and 18

∴ Two consecutive integers are 7 and 18.
