Three points are collinear if the value of area of triangle formed by the three points is zero. Apply the coordinates of the given three points in the area of triangle formula. If the result for area is zero, then the given points are said to be collinear.

Three or more points that lie on a same straight line are called collinear points.

Let us examine the above statement With three points A, B and C, three pairs of points can be formed, they are: AB, BC and AC.If Slope of AB = slope of BC = slope of AC, then A, B and C are collinear points.
