NH3 contains 3 hydrogen atoms and only one nitrogen atom

Nitrogen's mass = 14amu
mass of 3Hydrogen's atoms=3 amu
ratio by mass of elements = mass of 1 atom of nitrogen/ mass of 3 atoms of hydrogen
= 14/3
hence the ratio of mass of nitogen:mass of hydrogen in ammonia is 14:3

Formula of ammonia=NH3

From equation we can say that there is one atom of nitrogen and three atoms of hydrogen in ammonia. We also now the atomic masses of nitrogen and hydrogen (given in the problem).

Mass of nitrogen:mass of hydrogen

1×14:3×1

14:3
