Atomic weight of Carbon atom=8

Atomic weight of Oxygen atom=16

Hence the atomic weight of carbon and oxygen atoms are constant

In CO2, mass of carbon is 12 whereas that of oxygen is 32. Hence the ratio of their masses are 12:32=3:8

However, this fact is not justified by the constant atomic mass of carbon and oxygen. Hence both the statements are correct but the reason is not a correct explanation for the assertion
