Let the point divides (−3,1) and (−8,9) in ratio λ:1

Section Formula: If point (x,y) divides line joining two points in

(x  1  ,y  1 )  and (x  2  ,y  2 ) in ratio m:n internally

x=  m x2+nx1/m+n  y=my2+ny1/m+n

−6=  −8λ−3/λ+1

−6λ−6=−8λ−3

2λ=3

λ=  3/2

a=3/2*9+1/3/2+1

a=  29/5

Ratio =3:2 and a=29/5
