Given : point A (4, 4) divides the segment joining P (0, 5) and Q (8,3)

To Find : Ratio

Solution:

P (0, 5) and Q (8,3)

Ratio  = m : n

4 = (8m +0*n)/(m + n)   or   4 = (3m + 5n)/(m + n)

=> 4m + 4n = 8m

=> 4m = 4n

=> m = n

=> m/n = 1

=> m : n =  1  : 1

Hence point A (4, 4) divides the segment joining P (0, 5) and Q (8,3)   in  1: 1 ratio
