Find the ratio in which the line joining the points A(1,2) and B (-3,4) is divided by the line x+y-5=0.​

ANSWER

Let the line x + y = 5 divides AB in the ratio k : 1 at P

∴ co-ordinate of P are (−3k+1/k+1,4k+2/k+1)

Since P lies on x + y - 5 = 0

∴ −3k+1/k+1,4k+2/k+1−5=0⇒k=1/2

∴ Required ratio is 1 : 2 externally
