Find the ratio in which the line segment joining A (1, – 5) and B (- 4, 5) is divided by the x-axis. Also find the coordinates of the point of division.​

now we have to find the ratio

let ratiobe K:1

hence,

M1=k. , m2=1

X1=1. ,y1=-5

X2=-4. ,y2=5

also.

x=x. ,y=0

by using section formula

y=m1y2+m2y1/m1+m2

0=k×5+1+X-5/k+1

0=5k-5/k+1

0(k+1)=5k-5

0=5k-5

5k-5=0

5k=5

k=1

.

now we need to find X also

X= m1x2+m2x1/m1+m2

= kx-4+1×1/k+1

= 1×-4+1×1/1+1

= -4+1/2

= -3/2

.

Hence the cordinate of points is p(x,0)

=p(-3/2,0)

.
