Solution

Let the line segment AB which divides x axis . So, coordinate of A( 2,-3 ) and coordinate of B( 3,1)

At the point C where it divides x axis there coordinate are C( x,0)

Now Let the ratio as a : 1 .

Now we have :

x1 = 2 ; x2 = 3 ; y1 = -3 ; y2 = 1 ; m1 = a and m2 = 1

Using internal divison formula that is :

y = x1m2 + x2m1 / m1 + m2

0. = 2(1) + (-3)(a) / a+1

0. = 2 -3a./ a+1

0 = 2- 3a

3a = 2

a /1= 2/3

So the ratio is a:1 = 2: 3
