Find the ratio in which the point P(m,6) divides the line

segment joining the points A (-4,3) and B (2,8).

Also find the value of m​

Answer:

Let point P divides AB in ratio λ:1

Section Formula: If point (x,y) divides line joining two points in 

(x1,y1) and (x2,y2) in ratio m:n internally

x=m+nmx2+nx1

m=λ+12λ−4=23+12×23−4 =5−2                  

Now, y=m+nmy2+ny1

6=λ+18λ+3

6λ+6=8λ+3

2λ=3 ⇒λ=23

Ratio, λ:1 =23:1 =3:2

m=-2/5
