Answer : The coordinate is (17/8,0) and the ratio is 3:5.

Explaination:

Let the points be A(1, -3) B(4,5) and C(x,0).

Since points are collinear therefore the area of triangle formed by them should be zero.

(The formula is too complex to write here but I assume you already know it.)

You will get x = 17 /8.

Now apply the formula of division.

( I have considered y coordinate of C because it is zero and much easier to calculate)

0 = (-3n + 5m) / m+n = 0

3n = 5m

or m /n = 3/5.
