7:4 is the ratio  in which the Y-axis Divides the line segment joining the points (7,3) and (-4,5) (0 , 47/11) is coordinates of the point of intersection.

Step-by-step explanation:

line segment joining the points (7,3) and (-4,5).

Slope = (5 - 3)/(-4 - 7)

= 2/(-11)

= -2/11

y = -2x/11 + c

=> 3 = -14/11 +c

=> c = 47/11

=> y = -2x/11 + 47/11

=> 11y  = -2x + 47

=> 2x + 11y  = 47

at y axis  x = 0

=> y = 47/11

(0 , 47/11) is coordinates of the point of intersection.

let say ratio is  m : n

=>  0  = (-4m  + 7n)/8

=> 4m = 7n

=> m/n = 7/4

7:4 is the ratio
