Q7) Find the ratio of the following:

(a) 30 minutes to 1.5 hours (b) 40 cm to 1.5 m

(c) 55 paise to ` 1 (d) 500 mL to 2 litres

Solution

SOLUTION:

i) 30minutes to 1.5 hours, therefore we have to convert 1.5hours into minutes

required ratio =\frac{30}{90}=\frac{30\div30}{90\div30}=\frac{1}{3}=1:3=

90

30

=

90÷30

30÷30

=

3

1

=1:3

[HCF of 30 and 90 =30]

ii) 40cm to 1.5m, therefore we have to convert

1.5m to cm , m=100cm therefore, 1.5m=1.5X100cm = 150cm

therefore, required ratio =\frac{40}{150}=\frac{40\div10}{150\div10}=\frac{4}{15}=4:15

150

40

=

150÷10

40÷10

=

15

4

=4:15

[HCF of 40cm and 150cm is 10]

iii) 55paise to1rupee

therefore, we need to convert 1rupee into paise

1rs=100paise

require ratio=\frac{55}{100}=\frac{55\div5}{100\div5}=\frac{11}{20}=11:20

100

55

=

100÷5

55÷5

=

20

11

=11:20

[HCF of 55 and 100 =5]

iv) 500ml to 2litres

therefore, we need to convert litres to ml

1l=1000ml = 2X1000ml

required ratio= \frac{500\div100}{2000\div100}=\frac{5}{20}=5:20

2000÷100

500÷100

=

20

=5:20

[HCF of 500, 2000 is 100]
