Given :   ratio of sides BC:CE=1:4

To Find : ratio of area of triangles ABC and CEA

Solution:

Let draw AD ⊥ BE

Hence area of Δ ABC  = (1/2)  BC * AD

area of Δ ACE = (1/2) * CE * AD

area of Δ ABC / area of Δ ACE   =  (1/2)  BC * AD  /  (1/2) * CE * AD

=>  area of Δ ABC / area of Δ ACE   =  BC/CE

BC/CE = 1/4

=> area of Δ ABC / area of Δ ACE   =  1/4
