GIVEN :

. The dielectric constant of the medium for capacitor A is 3 and B capacitor filled with air.

TO FIND :

Find the ratio of energy associated with two capacitors A and B when they are at series combination

SOLUTION :

◆Energy in a capacitor = 1/2( CV^2)

◆Ratio of energy on both capacitors would be,

1/2( CaV'^2) ÷ 1/2( CbV''^2).

◆Voltages would be different , since capacitors are in series.

◆If both capacitance are identical. , for A and B .

Ca = Cb = Co

◆Capacitance C having dielectric K,

C = Co K

◆Since dielectric constant is 3 on Ca.

Thus, Ca = 3Co.

◆Ratio of energy on both capacitors would be,

1/2( CV'^2) ÷ 1/2( CbV''^2).

1/2( 3CoV'^2) ÷ 1/2( CoV''^2).

3/2( V'^2) ÷ 1/2( V''^2).

ANSWER :

Ratio of energy on both capacitors would be,

3/2( V'^2) : 1/2( V''^2).
