Given:  Two protons.

To find:  The ratio of f (electrostatic) and f(gravitational)

Solution:

  • Now we know that the charge of a Proton and an Electron is same.

                e = 1.6 x 10^-19 C

  • Now, lets assume that the charges are separated by a distance of 1 cm.
  • Then the Electrostatic Force between Two Protons is

                F = ( 9 x 10^9 ) x ( 1.6 x 10^-19)² / (10^-2)²

                F = 2.3 x 10^-24 N

  • Similarly gravitational force between protons is:

                F = ( 6.67 x 10^-11 ) x ( 1.67 x 10^-27)² / (10^-2)²

                F = 1.86 x 10^-60 N

  • Now the Ratio of electrostatic force and Gravitational force between two protons is:

               2.3 x 10^-24 N / 1.86 x 10^-60 N

            = 1.24 x 10^36

Answer:

                    So, the ratio of electrostatic force and Gravitational force between two protons is 1.24 x 10^36.
