initial U = -GMm/r

=> later

=> r becomes 2r and m becomes 3m

=> so final U = -GM(3m)/(2r) = -3GM/2r

=>hence ratio is 2:3

gyanesh65: But the answer is 6:1
pjrox57: i have taken it with respect to the object being on the surface of earth initially you can consider any height H and solve it the same way
gyanesh65: I am not able to solve it ....
gyanesh65: Please solve it....
