Given : A mixture containing milk and water gives 15% profit when sold at the cost price of pure milk

To Find :  the ratio of milk to water

Solution:

Let say milk  = M   Ltr

& water  = W   Ltr

Mixture = M + W ltr

Assuming cost of Water = 0

Cost per Liter of Milk  = C   Rs

Selling Price of Mixture per litre = C  Rs

Cost Price = MC + W*0  = MC  Rs

Selling Price = (M + W) C = MC + WC  Rs

Profit = MC + WC  - MC  = WC  Rs

15% profit   = (15/100)MC

=>  (15/100)MC  = WC

=> (3/20)M  = W

=> M/W = 20/3

ratio of milk to water   in a mixture   = 20 : 3
